Stamford Stone is a family business based just outside the beautiful stone town of Stamford in Lincolnshire.
Our story began in 1997 when a local builder, Ivor, wanted to find a cost-effective way of building with stone. George (our Managing Director) who was working in the reclaimed stone industry at that time was ready for a new venture. George and Ivor got talking. Add to that a ready supply of local limestone coupled with a thriving market, and a new business was born.
Investment has always been important to us – in 2001, we bought the Clipsham Quarry (Medwells), safeguarding our supply of the finest quality limestone and block stone and boosting our ability to satisfy both commercial and residential customers with a wider range of products. In 2014, we were granted planning permission to guarantee reserves for the next 30 years, protecting our heritage.
Unlike other stone manufacturers, Stamford Stone now operates two local stone quarries, producing stone for walling, masonry, cladding as well supplying block stone direct from the quarries. Rare in the industry, this puts us in an enviable position – we have greater control and flexibility, and can keep costs down for our suppliers and customers.
Committed to remaining a family business, the second generation is now in charge and we’re still as passionate about our products and the way we do business as we were at the very beginning.
We value the family connection, as do our customers, many of whom have become friends. Working together gives us a common goal and a genuine commitment to making sure everyone is happy and completely satisfied with our service.
Keeping it green
Thanks to our position in the centre of the Lincolnshire limestone belt, 95% of our block stone never travels more than 20 miles to our production site. And when we quarry, our by-products (aggregate and agricultural lime) actively help to minimise waste since they are reused and recycled.
The water used in our stone saws is 100% recycled through water treatment and by harvesting rainwater.

Meet the family
Laura Green (Director)
After graduating with a degree in Business Studies, Laura worked in marketing for Pirelli and SPD Medical before joining the family business in 2003 (taking her role so seriously, she married the works manager, Steve, in 2006!). Her skills extend from sales and marketing to giving estimates for larger tenders, and she also enjoys being involved in design work for new projects together with the in-house draughtsmen and clients.

Dan Wilson (Director)
After leaving school in 1998, Dan came straight into the family business. He soon spotted a new market emerging for limestone flooring so he created Lincolnshire limestone flooring in 2000. Following the acquisition of Greetham Quarry in 2014, the two companies joined forces. Dan is the first port of call for new business and is especially skilled at developing and maintaining relationships with builders, contractors and architects. He’s also keen to share his wealth of experience in English limestone with customers who always value his opinion.

Steve Green (Works Manager)
Steve joined Stamford Stone in 2001, a mechanical engineer by trade, his knowledge and practical abilities have led to huge advances in our production facilities. Steve runs our team of sawyers, palleters and masons at Swaddywell Quarry and is the point of contact for our customers for production and dispatch.
Phillippa Lambert (Accounts)
Phillippa joined Stamford Stone in 2014, bringing with her 25 years’ experience in accounts and book- keeping. She’s our main contact for all purchase and sales ledger enquiries so feel free to get in touch with her if you have any queries with numbers!
Ian Moules (Masonry Manager)
Ian runs his team of banker masons at Swaddywell Quarry. Leaving college in Cambridge in 1991, Ian completed his apprenticeship with Rattee and Ketts stonemasonry and during his career has worked on major restoration projects in Westminster Abbey, Windsor Castle, St Paul’s Cathdral and colleges in Cambridge. Ian works with our draughtsman compiling working drawings and cutting lists for production schedules.
Andy Jeffery (Sales Manager)
Andy started life at Stamford Stone in 2013 as yardman, assisting Steve with Orders, Dispatch and production control. It wasn’t long before we spotted his ability to build rapport with customers on the works site so transferring into sales was a natural move. He now shares his extensive knowledge of all our products with visitors to our showroom.
Adrian Bell (Quarry Manager)
Adrian manages our Clipsham Medwells Quarry and Greetham Quarry. Adrian came to work for us as a subcontractor operating heavy plant at the quarry in 2005. When the previous manager retired in 2010, Adrian was the obvious candidate for the role. He successfully completed his NVQ diploma in Quarry management in 2012.

Marcus Ladds (Plant Fitter)
Marcus’ background was heavy plant engineering, having worked previously for JCB and John Deere. He joined Stamford Stone in 2006, maintaining heavy plant operations across the quarries and keeping the saws calibrated to within our minimum tolerances.
Oscar (Team Mascot)
Affectionately known as “limo lab” “shorty” or more generally “what’s he’s crossed with?” our short legged black lab is part of the furniture. Partial to a Hob Nob and walks in the neighbouring nature reserve, he gives all our visitors a very warm welcome!
