Self-build residential project in Buckinghamshire

The Challenge

Stamford Stone was asked to design, supply and fit a variety of bespoke stone products for this ambitious self-build private residential home in Buckinghamshire.

As well as supplying our Clipsham Medwell ashlar to construct the house itself, we provided internal and external stone features to continue the high-end look and feel of the design throughout the exquisite rural home.

The Difference

Working alongside main contractor Burlington Construction and Architect Juliet Coleman, we collaborated on the project from start to finish.

We provided 40 square metres of flooring, including our Walcott Octagonal limestone tiles, which are produced from our Clipsham Bidwell stone. For this project, the client requested a bespoke 600mm x 600mm tile for the large entrance hall.

The Features

We also supplied three limestone fireplace surrounds, including our Barnack style in the main living room, and two bespoke designs to suit the client’s vision. To create a seamless flow from the ground floor to the first floor, we designed, supplied and fitted a bespoke stone staircase with bullnose copings, using the same Clipsham Bidwell stone to match the flooring.

The most striking feature of the project is the entrance hall, where the custom limestone fireplace is flanked by two huge picture windows spanning the entire height of the external wall. Inside, a mezzanine level offers spectacular views through the large window and creates an open, spacious feel when ascending or descending the stairs.

Two sets of wide French windows provide an abundance of natural light and open up onto the spacious terrace. The paved raised terrace offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, leading to a beautiful outdoor pool, set in matching stone to ensure harmony between the two outdoor spaces.
