Choose natural stone for timeless appeal
We are proud that our locally quarried Clipsham limestone was chosen for the award-winning chapel King Edward Chapel at Ripon College. Bringing a sense of quality, permanence and timelessness to every project, our beautiful stone was also specified for the Nazrin Shah Building at Worcester College, in Oxford. We’re not just stone suppliers. We own the quarries as well, so you can be confident about provenance and reassured about consistency. With resources guaranteed for the next 30 years, we’re looking forward to helping preserve more of the nation’s most loved buildings.
UK stone is durable and can withstand our Great British weather when used correctly. Finally, it makes economic sense as well as helping our carbon footprint compared with imports from overseas. Stamford Stone impressed me with their professional approach and their commitment to investment. I have since recommended using Clipsham limestone in at least four major projects.
Timeless prestige
The Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities is the University of Oxford’s largest building project in its near-1,000 year history. Designed by Hopkins Architects and located within the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, the Centre is a major multi-use educational and cultural destination. Clipsham Limestone was selected for the project due to its warm tone, fine grain and proven long-term performance on prestigious UK buildings. Approximately 400 m³ of Clipsham block was reserved specifically for the Centre, to ensure consistency across its extensive façade. The result is a unified, natural stone envelope that complements Oxford’s historic buildings, while clearly expressing itself as a modern academic institution.
