Architectural stonemasons and natural stone suppliers for your project in the East Midlands

Increasingly, architects are finding new appreciation for the benefits of building with natural stone. Among its attributes, natural stone provides high thermal capacitance, durability, longevity and, for architects, total design flexibility. Furthermore, stone is hypoallergenic and sustainable. Above all, natural stone ages gracefully, mellowing beautifully over time.
Owning and operating our own local limestone quarries, Stamford Stone, architectural stonemasons, have produced and supplied natural stone to architects, specifiers and builders since 1997.

Our architectural stonemasons offer you invaluable knowledge and experience

Stamford Stone’s expertise has helped architects, heritage restorers, national housebuilders and self-builders to create stunning developments as our case studies show.
In fact, Stamford Stone has been specified for many of the nation’s most prestigious buildings. For restoration work on Magdalen College, Oxford, we worked closely with the architects to source Greetham ashlar and Clipsham Brown copings from our Medwells quarry. These proved to be a suitable alternative to the previously used Ketton stone which was less readily available.
Our Clipsham limestone, meanwhile, has been specified for sympathetic restoration work at York Minster and Windsor Castle. And it was chosen for the building of the impressive Bishop Edward King Chapel for Ripon College in Oxfordshire. This innovative, circular structure comprises three distinct ‘bands’ of our Clipsham limestone. Showcasing our stonemasonry skills the middle section used some 35,000 individually hand-cut limestone blocks. Set in a precise dogtooth pattern the design creates a stunning visual effect, harmonising seamlessly with its leafy rural setting.
