Clipsham Medwells Quarry
The 20-acre Clipsham Medwells Quarry has been in operation for over a century, having been opened by the Medwell family in 1903. We purchased the quarry in 2001, almost exactly 100 years later.
One thing that makes Clipsham Medwells unique is the similarity in colour and composition of the limestone beds throughout the quarry. This allows us to provide a very consistent product to our customers, ensuring that each block of stone is of the highest quality and will look great in situ.
Clipsham Bidwells Quarry
Acquiring Clipsham Bidwells in 2018 allowed Stamford Stone to become the exclusive supplier of Clipsham limestone worldwide.
This second quarry boosted our ability to satisfy the demand for high-quality natural stone for commercial, house building and conservation projects. Our state-of-the-art stone processing plant allows us to offer expert sawing and cropping techniques so we can produce a variety of stone products.
Lincolnshire limestone
Formed in Jurassic times, Lincolnshire limestone is one of the oldest building materials there is. It has been part of the UK’s building heritage for thousands of years and is still a popular choice for masonry stone, as well as adding luxury and prestige when used for floors, staircases and fireplaces.
Rich in calcium and fossilised shells, every piece of Lincolnshire limestone is truly unique while retaining a consistency that makes it ideal for restoration and new-build projects alike.

The pride of our natural Lincolnshire limestone is the beautiful Clipsham.
This creamy-gold stone is particularly sought after for conservation and restoration projects thanks to its long history in the local area. Likewise, it’s also a popular choice for housebuilders, creating a sense of luxury and permanence while allowing new-build homes to blend in with the local architecture.
Our Clipsham limestone has been specified for use on some of the most prestigious buildings in the UK, including Windsor Castle, York Minster and several historical college buildings in Cambridge and Oxford.
