After buying the Clipsham Medwells Quarry in 2001, we later extended our Clipsham limestone supply by acquiring the Clipsham Bidwells Quarry in 2018 and secured our place as the exclusive supplier of Clipsham stone globally.
Quarrying limestone from our own quarries ensures a high standard of consistency and provenance in our Clipsham stone supply.

All of our Clipsham limestone products are locally quarried and ethically sourced at either of our Clipsham stone quarries.

Conservation and restoration projects
The new orangery at Rushton Hall
Stamford Stone supplied the stone for the new orangery at Rushton Hall in the Midlands. Our Clipsham limestone blends seamlessly into the existing architecture of the stately home to maintain the same luxury look and feel.
Catering for up to 500 guests, the new orangery boasts an impressive stone façade that matches the beautiful interior.
University Arms Hotel
As part of this historic hotel’s £80 million refurbishment, Stamford Stone provided more than 500 tonnes of individually selected Clipsham limestone blocks.
The University Arms Hotel was fabricated with stone blocks of between 5 and 10 tonnes and 1100m long components for the decorative columns on the hotel’s façade, returning it to its former Regency-style glory.
Education projects
Jesus College – West Court, the University of Cambridge
Combining modern and traditional design elements, the restoration and conservation of the West Court Development at the University of Cambridge was completed with Stamford Stone’s Clipsham limestone.
You’ll find our stone on the vertical ribs of stone on the exterior walls, the treads and risers on the internal staircase and copings in the main building and café terrace. We also installed fascia panels over the West Court entrance, hand carved by our master stonemasons.
Ripon College, University of Oxford
Stamford Stone supplied more than 35,000 blocks of hand-finished dog tooth stonework to replicate the surrounding listed Cotswold Stone buildings.
The Ripon College project was shortlisted for the 2013 RIBA Stirling Prize Award.
Commercial stone projects
2012 RHS Chelsea Flower Show
Adam Frost Design approached Stamford Stone to supply local limestone for his RHS Chelsea 2012 “Land’s End: A Rural Muse” garden. Clipsham limestone formed the decorative boulders, cropped limestone for garden walls and copings alongside a central fire pit.
Drawing inspiration from the local environment of Helpston, near Stamford, this garden won the gold medal at the 2012 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
New UK headquarters for Alltech
Alltech selected Clipsham limestone for the cladding of the front façade on their newly erected UK headquarters.
Sourced from a quarry less than ten miles from the site, Clipsham stone was a sustainable choice for this project with low transportation needs and guaranteed local provenance.
